Uvarovite is a calcium chromium garnet with the formula Ca₃Cr₂(SiO₄)₃. Chromium gives it an emerald-green color, and it commonly forms as small sparkling crystals spread across a matrix; large individual gems are uncommon. It is a distinct member of the Garnet Group. Mohs hardness: about 6.5–7.

The triangular Tourmaline slice shows a pink center enclosed by a dark green rim, while the tapered Uvarovite panel has a densely sparkling surface.
