We'll go over a couple of our favorite cleansing methods to help you better understand and connect with the process in a way that resonates with your individual path.

"Do I" & "Why?"

Have you ever picked up mannerisms or little phrases from hanging out with your bestie? Crystals can sometimes do the same thing, so it can be a good idea to hit the "refresh" button every once in a while, especially for stones that you're using to yeet negativity. The methods people use to cleanse their crystals can be as diverse and unique as the crystals being cleansed and the people caring for them, so here are a couple tips for how to get started.

Setting the Stage

Candles, tea, and a soft blanket create a serene environment for crystal cleansing.

Before you jump into the metaphysical scrub-a-dub-dub, it's always a good idea to spend a little time creating a serene and focused environment. A tranquil space can help you focus and connect with what you're doing. Light some candles, play soft music, burn some incense, or set the tone using some of your other favorite crystals. Rose quartz is one of our personal favorites, but go with whatever feels right to you. Feel free to incorporate any creature comforts that align with you, or that just help you relax. 🛀

Intention

Just as a conductor sets the tempo and mood of a musical performance, intention sets the rhythm and resonance of your crystal work. Before cleansing, take a moment to center yourself and set clear intentions. Focus on your desired outcome, whether it's purification, releasing stagnant energies, or charging your crystals with specific goals in mind. Have a big work meeting coming up? Is it time to let go of some unwanted emotions? Communication is critical to all healthy relationships, so be a good crystal friend and let them know what you're working on.

Moon bathing

Letting your crystals bathe in the gentle glow of moonlight is a timeless method for cleansing crystals. Choose a clear night, set your intention, and place your crystals on a windowsill or outdoors where they can soak up all that lovely moon-glow. The Full Moon is often considered auspicious for cleansing, but the waning moon can be wonderful for helping with releasing or downsizing, while the waxing moon is good for expansion and new endeavors. If you're not sure what the moon is up to, websites like MoonGiant.com and MoonPhases.co.uk are great resources. 🌒🌕🌘

Elemental Cleansing

This is one of those "oh yea...that makes sense" methods. Think about where crystals come from! Of course earthly elements can help you out. Running them under the faucet or submerging them in natural bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, or the ocean can help to cleanse and revitalize, especially if you choose a spot that you have a close connection to already. Alternatively, burying your crystals in the earth for a while can help to ground them and release any built-up energetic ick. Be careful though! Not all crystals are good swimmers, or enjoy taking dirt naps. Crystals like selenite, halite, or celestite are water-soluble and should not be exposed to water, and some crystals could be really hard to clean after being buried. Always read up on your crystals first, and if you're not sure, send us a message!

Smoke & Herbs

Smoke from herbs and other plants such as rosemary, sage, palo santo, and cedar, have been used to cleanse objects and spaces for ages. Simply light your favorite herb bundle or loose herb and allow the smoke to wash over your crystals. Remember to focus on whatever your intention is (especially the don't-burn-the-house-down part). A nice metal bowl or sturdy crystal dish works wonderfully with some sand or salt in the bottom.

Please be mindful of the difference between "smoke cleansing" and "smudging." A quick Google search will pull up several great articles on the difference between them and how to be respectful of other cultures and closed practices.

Using Other Crystals

Salt and selenite are energetic superheroes when it comes to cleansing your crystals. Placing your crystals on or near salt (Yup! Good ol' table salt!) or a piece of selenite helps whisk away any built-up energies. This works really well as an overnight method, or if you feel like one of your crystal friends needs an extended stay at the spa. 💅

Other Methods

We mentioned this at the beginning, but it's worth saying it again: cleansing your crystals is a very personal experience and how you go about doing so will be unique to you. If the moon doesn't feel right, maybe a little sun-bathing will, or maybe that quartz cluster in the living room just needs to vibe out with some good music for a while. The methods we've shared so far are great starting points, but be open to what feels right to you in the moment and don't limit yourself to lists like these.

Wrapping Up

Just like we love to bask in a little extra pampering, crystals can also benefit from regular cleansing to maintain their optimal energetic state and maximize their potential. There's no need to feel overwhelmed or intimidated by the process. Trust your instincts, use a process that feels right, and remember to keep your goals and intentions in focus. If you have any questions or would like to share your experiences, we'd love to hear from you - feel free to send us a message or leave a comment below! Oh and...Just remember to also leave space for crystals to simply exist as the beautiful works of natural art that they are! 😉
