Colombianite Handcarved Natural Crystal Skulls - Colombia
These hand-carved skulls are made from genuine Colombianite, a rare natural glass found in the Cauca Valley of Colombia. Known locally as “Piedra Rayo” or “Lightning Stone,” this ancient obsidian-like material has long been revered by indigenous cultures, who believed it was formed where lightning struck the earth.
While there are several theories on how this unique material formed, it is most likely the result of volcanic activity similar to obsidian, and is classified as a pseudotektite. It shares a similar texture and shape with tektites, ranges in color from deep grey to smoky black and may exhibit a subtle pearly luster.
